9/11 10th Anniversary Thoughts
I can remember as if it were yesterday exactly where I was and who was with me 10 years ago when it became clear what was happening in our country...to our country. Greg and I had Mike and Christopher Morgan (our next door neighbor boys) staying with us while their parents were away on business. Greg was home ill that day and I had just dropped the boys off at school and was on my way to work. I had just turned on the radio as I was getting ready to pass under the freeway bridge when I heard talk of a plane flying into one of the Twin Towers. I couldn't imagine how that could have happened with air control as it is now. And then the second tower was hit and I knew we were under attack. I quickly called Greg and told him to turn on the TV. I was hoping this was a dream I was going to awaken from any minute. I know those moments are seared pretty deeply into all our memories. We had the radio on at work all that day and I was so proud of our people as Greg and I watched the news coverage in the weeks and months that followed. I'm so grateful to be an American and I know of a surety that this is the promised land spoken of in the scriptures. Though it was such a very tragic period in our history, we rose above it all. It is a wonderful thing to have this 10th anniversary to remember how we felt and reflect on what we accomplished together as a nation in the aftermath. I loved the special Mormon Tabernacle broadcast of Music and the Spoken word with Tom Brokaw Tom Brokaw speaks of recording 9/11:Rising Above with Mormon Tabernacle Choir
that aired this morning and then was later reminded of the talk that President Hinckley gave in the October General Conference following Sept. 11th. It was good to read it once again in light of what has taken place in the years since then called "The Times in Which we Live" . I know that Heavenly Father is watching over us and was certainly watching over us even as the events of September 11, 2001 unfolded. His presence and that of the Savior have been evident as we have healed as a country since that day. Our challenge is not to forget and to continue to have faith in His divine plan; to do all we can to preserve our freedoms...to be part of the solutions, not the problems.

The images are still so vivid, aren't they?
I loved President Hinckley's talk when I heard it then- I haven't read it since, but I should. I remember how different it was to be a missionary that day and in the weeks that followed. There was a difference in people that was tangible.
I found myself especially emotional about it this year, but in a good way. What a great post Aunt Wendy!
