They had such fun spoiling and fussing over her!
It is hard to get a picture of them that isn't blurry!!!!
It was delicious! Can't beat hamburgers and fries with all the trimmings,
fresh corn and fresh fruit, can you?
Thursday, August 20th, was Regan's 11th birthday. Next year she will enter the Young Women Program and the following year will be an official teenager! We think her mom should still be a teenager, for heavens sake!
Greg and I can't figure out how we have arrived at this point where we have grandkids turning 11! Todd's 11th birthday is November 9th. I don't know why but for some reason this year the 11 year-old thing has us in shock! It is as if we don't dare blink or they will be going off to college, on missions, and getting married! We remember as if it were yesterday standing, sitting, fretting, waiting impatiently, yet trying so hard to be patient...well, ...just being so excited we could hardly contain ourselves awaiting the birth of our first little grandchild...wondering what it would feel like to hold him or her in our arms, gaze on at that beautiful little face, and feel a little spirit so fresh from Heavenly Father's presence. It was an amazing revelation to realize that one of our babies was now having her own child. And when Regan was finally born, truly there were no words to express the joy we felt! Writing about it brings those feelings back to my heart. I think that having a first grandchild is much like the anticipation you feel as you are going to become parents for the first time. It is a new era in your life and you just pray you will be "good at it"! I hope we are because we certainly try our very best. We love each of our little grandkids so much and thoroughly enjoy the unique and very special personality of each. I think that is one of the great blessings of having lots of grandchildren quite close together. We have become very aware what little individuals they are from the moment they arrive and we have no desire to try to change them or fit them into any kind of preconceived mold. Each one is simply precious and absolutely marvelous in his or her own way! We find ourselves enjoying that aspect of grand-parenting more with each passing day.
Well, I didn't set out to write all of that but it just spilled out! Anyway, the pictures pretty well tell the story of Regan's party. It was so fun to be with her and her family and enjoy a little "lawn party"! It was an extra treat to have Aunt Marilyn and Mom come out to visit. Aunt Marilyn is here from Lewiston, ID for a class reunion. Her husband, my sweet Uncle John, has Alzheimer's and is nearly impossible to leave. Their two daughters came to stay with their dad so she could get away for a few days. Watching Mom, Aunt Marilyn and Aunt Gloria together is like watching Lori, Cindy and Julie together! They have a ball and get the giggles just like my girls. It makes me long for the time when I too will be able to laugh and giggle with my older sister who was stillborn and my younger sister who passed away at age 36! Won' that be wonderful? Thanks for taking a few minutes to come out and join the party, Aunt Marilyn! Regan was so hoping you would be able to come!
We loved seeing the cake that Regan chose from an internet picture and then brought to life! This girl has patience and drive when she makes up her mind to do something! We also loved the magnetic picture board that Cindy so lovingly made and decorated for her! I think Regan was very excited about everything she received. She was happy to have a few of her friends over earlier in the day and then to have so much family come to help her celebrate as well! Regan, you are sweetie and a joy to Grandpa and me! Happy 11th Birthday!
